Indonesia is a country of glorious flora and fauna. Its diversity is breathtaking; for every square kilometre, there is a different kind of experience waiting for you.
The diversity is because there are more than 50 kinds of cultural communities residing in Indonesia, so every region has its specialties and tastes.
Furthermore, Indonesia is a great tourist destination with natural wonders, captivating environments, and amazingly welcoming people.
I wanted to visit Indonesia for several reasons: its diversity (with more rainforests and volcanoes than I had ever seen), the relative safety of its big cities, as well as to experience a nod to traditional Asian culture that I’d never experienced prior.
Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populated nation, with more than 17,000 islands; however, when people think of Indonesia, they usually think of Bali.
While Bali is fantastic and of itself, visiting Indonesia provides so much more and has so much to give.
This blog will give you a few ideas on how to spend your time on your visit.
10 – The Amazing Food
My favorite type of food is Iban food as it combines the variety and taste of flavors and spices that Indonesia has to offer but done well. These days it is becoming challenging to decide where to eat due to its fantastic range and options.
My recommendation is to celebrate every meal with an Iban dish at least once due to its uniqueness and variety.
According to many tourists, Indonesian cuisine is one of the world’s most underappreciated cuisines. With a mixture of ingredients from all over Southeast Asia to make some fantastic flavours of Indonesia, you can practically eat for days yet try something fresh.
Indonesia is also one of the world’s major coffee producers; the word “a cup of Java” is derived from Indonesia’s Java island.
They’re also known for their Kopi Luwak coffee, which is made from the faeces of the Luwak. It may sound disgusting, but it is a scarce and expensive coffee.
9 – The Mountains and Beaches of Lombok
My visit to Anangu Pitak is truly a memorable one. Here, you will find the Javanese jungle, breathtaking beaches, and a deeply ingrained culture in its traditions. Riding on a motorcycle in Indonesia is a dream for many Westerners.
Indonesia is situated on the Pacific Rim of Fire and is one of the world’s most active volcanic regions. There are 150 volcanoes in the country alone. It also has some of the world’s most beautiful sunsets, with one of the best being seen from Mount Penanjakan, which looks out over the famed Mt Bromo Volcano.
Lombok is an untamed landscape of thick rain forests, towering waterfalls, and soaring mountains mingled with quaint fields, white sand beaches, and the ominous appearance of Indonesia’s second-highest volcano, Gunung Rinjani, which nearby Bali mostly overshadows.
Lombok, which is mostly overlooked in favour of the neighbouring Gili Islands, has a lot to offer anyone eager to forego their creature comforts and venture off the beaten path.
Hikers would be particularly enamoured of the island’s many hiking trails, with the climb to the summit of Gunung Rinjani a must-do for adventurous climbers.
It’s something to strive for, with a crater lake and hot springs as a treat at the summit.
8 – Historical Sites
It’s easy to forget that Indonesia has a rich past that rivals that of historic sites like Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Ayutthaya in Thailand, particularly with so much natural beauty strewn around the Andaman Sea like jewels.
Borobudur is a magnificent Buddhist temple that has become synonymous with Indonesia and is one of the country’s most famous tourist attractions for a good reason. Also, the towering Prambanan Temple, the spectacular Great Mosque of Demak, and the Yogyakarta Palace to wow and humble you.
7 – Bali
There is so much to see and experience in Bali for anyone who visits. I am one of those people! I love it so much that I plan to spend more time here in the future!
Bali, as the most visited island in Indonesia, has a lot to bring visitors. Bali has it all, whether you’re looking for diving trips, gorgeous beaches, breathtaking volcanoes, or traditional cities like Ubud.
It’s where you’ll find Bali’s best beaches, misty volcanic treks, incredible famous temples like Uluwatu and Tanah Lot, and laid-back coasts. You can also go out for a few drinks at night in Kuta and other Bali nightclubs.
6 – Scuba Diving
I love diving. I was interested in diving all over the place. But first, I had trouble convincing my Hostel coworkers to let me join their dive training program. The reason was simple; I knew nothing about scuba.
So when I got to Indonesia, I went straight into a Dive Center!
Indonesia has several truly world-class scuba diving destinations, and diving enthusiasts will undoubtedly discover something exclusive here that they won’t find anywhere else.
Indonesia is home to 20% of the world’s coral reefs and historic wrecks, underwater volcanoes, and a plethora of other attractions.
5 – Explore the Gili Islands
The Gili Islands’ white beaches, turquoise seas, and coconut palms might be what you’re searching for if you’re looking for the classic desert island experience.
While the islands (especially Gili Trawangan, also known as Gili T) have seen a surge in popularity in recent years, they are still much less developed and crowded than Bali’s Kuta tourist strip. Each of the three islands has its distinct personality:
- Gili T has a vivid backpacker scene.
- Gili Air has a laid-back local feel.
- Gili Meno has an upmarket appeal.
4 – East Java
East Java may be the cure for what ails you if you want to get well and truly off the beaten path and explore the unspoiled natural beauty.
East Java is Indonesia’s lmost minoron an excellentreasonthere’sited province and one of its most endearing, with volcano hills, forest valleys, and unspoiled wilderness.
The Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park is home to the majestic twin volcanic peaks of Mount Bromo and Mount Semeru and lush trees, serene crater lakes, and rugged mountains surrounding the volcanoes. It’s breathtaking.
East Java’s gritty interior is difficult to beat for pure natural elegance. Although many people think of Indonesia’s beaches when planning a vacation, it’s also worth recalling the country’s breathtaking mountains.
3 – Raja Ampat
Ran Apmat or Rock Garden is a walkway in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. The structure is made of red, white, and blue tiles, and it is formal and green on the inside. It used to be a military outpost but was turned into a park by King Gede Bikila in 1920.
The garden is famed for its greenery and stunning view of Mount Agung, Mount Berkeley, and the South Fork Puncak Jaya River.
The four islands of Raja Ampat are situated in the Western Papua province, far from the more well-travelled parts of Indonesia. They are home to some of the world’s best scuba diving.
Its remote location makes it impossible to access, and its lack of tourism growth ensures you’ll be cut off from the rest of the world while you’re there. If being disconnected from the rest of the world for a few blissful weeks sounds appealing, there are few places on the planet better than Raja Ampat.
2 – Komodo National Park
The Komodo Dragon is the celebrity resident of Indonesia’s Komodo National Park named after him. These fierce dragons, who are currently the world’s most giant live lizard and the nearest thing friendly to dinosaurs, are quite the tourist attraction for thrill-seekers.
On the four islands that make up Komodo National Park in Indonesia, they are the only place in the world where they can be found surviving in the wild. It’s been said that he’s eaten a human or two.
1 – Sumatra
Sumatra, Indonesia’s largest island, is one of the country’s most breathtakingly stunning, and you might comfortably spend your entire 30-day visa visiting only a fraction of it.
The rocky interior of the island is home to a diverse array of species, including Sumatran tigers and orangutans.
Though endangered tigers are extremely rare, adventurous explorers will go on week-long (or longer) jungle treks in pursuit of them.
CONCLUSION
Life in Jakarta is exhilarating, vibrant, and constantly changing. This golden country has it all, from blooming glass and neon signs to relaxing music festivals and fiery street markets.
And although I’ve only been here for a month, everything I see (and eat!) speaks volumes about this incredible country.
If you can see, Indonesia comprises far more than “just Bali.” There’s enough for everybody, whether you’re a scuba diver, a hiker, a nature enthusiast, or an amateur historian!
When you combine it with fantastic food, low costs, and nice people, you’ve got yourself a formula for an enjoyable holiday.
